IP Illustration is an established and reputable patent illustration company serving intellectual property professionals nationwide. We create precise, USPTO-compliant line drawings from a variety of input sources, including photographs, hand sketches, prototypes, and engineering drawings.
Our work supports patent attorneys and inventors by transforming complex concepts into clear technical illustrations.
This position requires highly precise, detail-oriented work. Artistic creativity alone is not sufficient – accuracy and consistency are critical.
Important: This is an in-house position only. Applicants seeking remote work will not be considered.
Responsibilities
- Create high-quality patent illustrations using CAD software
- Interpret and convert photos, sketches, and engineering files into accurate technical drawings
- Produce clean, professional black-and-white line art suitable for USPTO submission
- Manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
- Communicate with project managers regarding technical details and revisions
- Maintain consistency, accuracy, and attention to detail across all work
Position Type: Full-Time, In-House Only (No Remote Work).
No prior patent illustration experience required. Training will be provided for qualified candidates.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Strong technical drawing or illustration skills, including the ability to create clean, precise line art
- Excellent spatial visualization ability and attention to detail
- Ability to interpret and convert photos, sketches, and technical references into accurate drawings
- Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven production environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Willingness to learn and follow USPTO patent drawing standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar programs
- Background in mechanical drafting, industrial design, engineering, graphic design, or technical illustration
- Experience using vector-based illustration software such as Adobe Illustrator
- Experience converting 3D models into 2D technical illustrations
- Familiarity with line-weight control, vector drawing precision, and technical layout standards
- Formal education or training in art, drafting, engineering, or design-related fields
- Strong ability to follow detailed written instructions and revision feedback
- Experience working in a production environment with multiple concurrent projects
