Crossroads Center for Children, located in the Schenectady/Rotterdam/Duanesburg, NY area, is looking to fill immediate openings for Special Education Teacher Assistants in our school aged program. We are looking for staff who are fun loving, life-long learners, committed, and determined to help students achieve their best. Crossroads serves students following principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is an empirically based therapy that is used to analyze the relationship between a child and their environment to improve socially significant behavior. We stress positively reinforcing appropriate behaviors and replacing challenging behaviors with functional communication.

We have positions in our self-contained school-aged classrooms. Each classroom consists of a teacher and multiple teacher’s aids supported by a Behavior Analyst and Educational Supervisor. Students are also supported by a Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and Physical Therapist on an as needed individualized basis.

Job Responsibilities Include:

Helping children work on individual goals such as academic, social, self-help and play skills.
Collect ABA focused data to promote skill acquisition and behavior change.
Work closely with Special Education Teachers and Board Certified Behavioral Analyst.
Assisting with planning and preparing for daily activities such as art, music, and movement.
Collaborating as a team member to help students reach their individualized goals.
Providing therapy in various models (individual or group).
Collecting data for standardized and non-standardized student assessments.
Maintaining thorough records and documenting progress in student files and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Regularly participating in team meetings to ensure the coordination of student goals and progress,
Work and collaborate with a Special Education Teacher and Behavior Analyst to ensure successful intervention.
Redirecting and correcting aberrant behavior.

Job Types

Full-time – Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 3:30 pm
Part-time- Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
Per Diem- Between 9:00 am & 2:30 pm on an individualized basis

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience in childcare (preferred)
Working with children with Autism (preferred)
New York State Certification as a Teacher Assistant is required within the first 6 months of employment (HR will show you how to obtain this certification)
