Neurodiversity and the Transition to Independence

Participants: Neurodiverse Adults
Join social-emotional learning expert and neurodiversity advocate Laura Sibbald in an interview style live session! The interview will discuss components of essential independent living skills, including self-awareness, self-monitoring, and self-advocacy. Participants will be empowered to set personal goals, identify healthy coping skills, and explore new situations with confidence. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
Training Objectives
• Attendees will differentiate self-awareness, self-monitoring, and self-advocacy skills.
• Attendees will identify targeted tools to support self-advocacy across settings
• Attendees will discuss personal empowerment and the ability to make positive, independent decisions
About the Presenter
Laura K. Sibbald, MA, CCC-SLP, ASDCS, CYMHS is coauthor of the Trauma-Informed Social-Emotional Toolbox for Children & Adolescents (PESI, 2020) and the Parenting Toolbox (PESI, 2018). She was an invited speaker and moderator at PESI’s 2021 Autism Symposium, where she also had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Temple Grandin in the keynote Different… Not Less. She is an active member of MSHA and ASHA committees, and is currently the chair of the Alumni Advisory Council for the Speech-Language Hearing Science Department at George Washington University. Laura graduated from GWU in 2011 with a Master’s in speech-language pathology.
