SUMMARY:An Introduction to Autism in the AW
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the year we are running fully funded 60 minute “Introduction to Autism in the Workplace” sessions for employers \nWhy are we doing it? \nJust 16% of autistic adults are in full time employment. TRACK is supporting businesses across the SEMLEP region to embrace the talents of a diverse range of individuals. So far we have supported 40 people into paid employment\, and over 100 more into access work experience placements. \nTo help create further opportunities we will be providing a 60-minute training session for organizations\, which will help to create opportunities for individuals. \nHow and What? \nThe 60-minute training session will outline what autism is\, how autistic employees can bring a huge amount of talent to your business and how to support autistic employees. You will be able to take this knowledge back into your organization and share the information with colleagues\, so we can truly be a local area which is talking about – and encouraging – autism in the workplace. We will also cover strategies to ensure you business is aware and accepting of autism. Small environmental changes can make a life changing difference \nPlaces are free to all employers\, thank to support from Thinking Books.

SUMMARY:Driving with Autism – Five Things Your Driving School Won’t Teach You
DESCRIPTION:June 21 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm ET\, $25 \n\n\n\nRegister now and watch this webinar live or later on-demand.  See below for details. \nDESCRIPTION: Driving schools cover a wide range of topics\, such as traffic laws\, road signs and traffic signals\, road safety rules and more. Driving lessons may start out in a parking lot\, progress to local roads\, then highways\, and crowded city streets. There are even specific driving school services that help parents supervise their teen’s or young adult’s driving practices.  Not a lot of research has been done on what’s the best way for autistic individuals to learn how to drive or to cope with some of the ongoing challenges of driving.   In this webinar\, we take more of a “grassroots” approach.  We know what helps autistic individuals learn to drive and be successful at it\, because we are those individuals.    Most driving schools aren’t usually equipped with an autism-friendly curriculum\, so this webinar outlines five things that driving schools forget to teach\, but are essential to the driving success of autistic driving students: \n\nIdentifying & Tapping into your Motivation\nUnderstanding the Financial Realities of Driving\nCoping with the Unexpected & Managing Anxiety\nManaging Sensory Overload\nHandling Police Interactions & Safety\n\nDuring the last 20-30 minutes of this webinar\, attendees will be able to pose questions to the speaker\, via the Zoom chat feature. \nSPEAKER: Andrew Arboe: Founder of  Driving with Autism \nAndrew specializes in helping autistic drivers and their families pursue driving as a transportation option. Andrew Arboe found a career path with driving\, because of his personal experiences learning how to drive\, while autistic. Lack of transportation means that people can’t access employment and education\, and lack of driving resources for people with autism and research on driving with autism continues to hamper access to transportation for autistic individuals.  This is the reason that Andrew offers “Driving with Autism Workshops.”   Andrew knows that he cannot speak for everyone’s experience\, so he embraces the idea of going over tips and concepts to help new drivers create their own roadmap on driving. Along with his workshops\, Andrew offers online consulting to new drivers and parents nationwide\, and actively collaborates with professionals and driving schools to improve the driving experience for autistic individuals. He believes having people learn about self-help can make a major difference in their lives\, then waiting for an invisible force to make things better.

SUMMARY:Neurodiversity and Long-term Success: College to Career
DESCRIPTION:The college experience looks different for everyone. \nFor members of the neurodiverse community\, the process of attending college\, graduating\, and beginning a career can be daunting. For those entering the job market\, unemployment for neurodivergent adults runs at least as high as 30-40%.1 \n\n\n\n\nIn this 60-minute session\, we’ll introduce you to 3 guests who each share a unique experience in higher education and neurodiversity. Awareness of neurodiversity employment programs is crucial for neurodivergent individuals\, but universities vary in whether they have one integrated and how they support their neurodiverse student population. The discussion will touch on the following topics: \n\nThe experience of neurodivergent students on college campuses\nWhat universities are doing to ensure the preparedness and success of neurodivergent students\nHow universities can help prepare the future workforce to create a neurodiversity-inclusive workplace\nReal-life experience supporting a neurodiversity employment program within a higher education institution

SUMMARY:Neurodiversity in Culture and the Case for Neuroinclusion
DESCRIPTION:Even a decade ago\, most people knew very little about neurodiversity. \nToday\, while the community still faces bias and misconceptions\, we also see the rapid rise of “neuroinclusion” as a priority and talent strategy for leading employers. \nIn this webinar\, we will explore where this has all come from – and what employers need to know when it comes to the cultural landscape relating to neurodiversity in society and in employment. \nIn this panel discussion\, we will be answering: \n\nWhat is the movement to achieve neuroinclusion and why is it happening now?\nWhat factors are contributing to more confident self-advocacy amongst the neurodistinct community?\nWhat challenges and roadblocks might neurodistinct people have faced due to low cultural awareness?\nWhat is an organization’s role in social equity relating to neurodiversity and neuroinclusion?

SUMMARY:Unlocking Neurodivergent Potential in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:About this event \nOur panel-based discussion will be focusing on the future of neurodiversity in the workplace: the challenges and how business leaders can enable neurodivergent individuals to be successful. \nWhat is Neurodiversity? \nNeurodiversity is the concept that all humans vary in terms of their neurocognitive ability. The term neurodiversity encompasses a range of neurodivergent conditions\, including ADHD\, autism\, dyslexia\, dyspraxia and dyscalculia. \nWhat are the challenges? \nEveryone has talents and things that they struggle with. However\, for some people the variation between those strengths and weaknesses is more pronounced\, which can bring talent but can also be disabling. \nNeurodivergent people tend to find some things very easy and other things incredibly hard. This usually leads to an inconsistent performance at school or work.
