SUMMARY:The Job Forum - Weekly Wednesday Meeting: Free Job Search & Career Advice
DESCRIPTION:Every Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00pm\, a rotating panel of experts from a variety of Bay Area companies convene in a virtual meeting to help YOU with your job search. We are a nonprofit organization sponsored by The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce\, and we are here to help! \nJob seeking can be hard and stressful. We know sometimes you just have questions and want real advice. Our staff of professional volunteers will spend the time to understand you and help you take the next steps in your job search. \nEach Wednesday\, we have a rotating panel of three experts in their respective fields. Though the specific industry of the panelist may not be your own\, there is plenty of valuable information that can be taken from each meeting. Anyone who joins our virtual meeting will get a chance to speak to these advisors and get insight on questions they might have. You now have the option of submitting your resumes and LinkedIn profiles for instant feedback. \n• Each attendee gets a turn. While you are waiting for your turn\, you get to hear the advice and practical suggestions given to other attendees and apply them to your own situation. As an open forum to all participants\, you can also make suggestions to other participants. \n• When it is your turn\, you share a brief summary of your current situation\, goals\, and what you need help with. You can tell us whatever special circumstances or frustrating responses you are encountering as you look for your next job. \n• The panel asks questions and shares ideas\, feedback\, and resources that can help you focus your job search efforts and prioritize your next steps. \nThis week – NEW PRIZE DRAWING! \nThis week\, The Job Forum will be holding a drawing with two fantastic prizes! A winner will be drawn from the people who sign up and ATTEND the meeting. You MUST be present to win. The prizes are a free 30-min 1-On-1 Advising session with one of our career advisors or a copy of “Give Yourself A Nudge: How Smart People Make Smarter Personal Business Decisions\,” by Ralph L. Keeney. \nThe winner will be announced at the end of the meeting\, so make sure you sign up\, attend\, and stay until the end! \n** If you are the winner\, YOU MUST give us your email in the chat so we can contact you. A couple people have won and were not registered through Eventbrite\, or possibly go by another name\, so YOU MUST tell us how to contact you. \nHow to sign up: \nREGISTER on EventBrite: https://thejobforumwednesdays.eventbrite.com \n\nRegister here via Eventbrite.\n24 hours in advance\, as well as 2 hours in advance of event\, you will receive an email containing a link and password\, allowing you to join The Job Forum via Zoom.\nWe have limited attendance and many job hunters who want customized input for their job search\, so please sign up only if you are truly going to attend and participate for the whole 2 hours.\nPlease be no more than 15 minutes late. We do close the meeting and cannot allow late-comers to join.\nSince we’re trying to stay connected despite social isolation\, we will have our cameras on. Please join us on camera if possible.\n\nAgain\, the sharing of resumes and profiles on select days is optional and is not required if you do not feeling comfortable doing so. The files or links will be submitted to and shared by the panelists only. Any file or link will be shared with the group\, so if you do not decide to submit your own\, you can still gain valuable information from someone else’s submission.

SUMMARY:How to Navigate the Remote and Flexible Job Market: Trends in 2023
DESCRIPTION:About this Webinar\nA choice of work environment and location is now a key factor for many job seekers when searching for a better work-life balance and evaluating new career opportunities. FlexJobs’ 2022 Career Pulse Survey found that 65% of respondents reported a desire to work remotely full-time\, while 32% want a hybrid work environment. That’s an incredible 97% of workers who desire some form of remote work! \nIdeally\, people can balance their career and their personal life in a way that works best for their needs\, and having a more flexible job typically helps with this. Are you interested in remote jobs and flexible work options\, like being able to work from home\, have a flexible schedule\, find a professional-level part-time job\, or work on freelance/contract projects? What if you’re not ready to return to the office because of pandemic-related concerns? Can you continue to work remotely? Can your employer make you come into the office? This webinar will discuss the flexible job market\, trends in 2023 to pay attention to\, and how to position yourself for a remote or flexible job.

SUMMARY:Neurodiversity in the Workplace Awareness Session
DESCRIPTION:Neurodiversity is the range of common differences in thinking and behavior which we now understand to be normal variations in humans. This includes conditions such as autism\, dyslexia\, ADHD\, and others. Neurodiverse variations have played a central role in the development of human society\, yet neurodiverse people have been historically misunderstood and marginalized as individuals. In our Neurodiversity in the Workplace Awareness Sessions\, we use autism as a primary example to introduce a basic understanding of neurodiversity and of its role in society and within the workplace. \nThe majority of autistic people (now understood to be 1 in 44 individuals) are employable\, yet only 29% have any sort of paid work. This is despite the fact that common autistic traits – such as intense attention to detail\, self-taught expertise\, high integrity\, and ease in sustaining deep focus and ‘flow’ – are traits needed in an effective 21st Century workforce. In our Neurodiversity in the Workplace Awareness Sessions\, we discuss how leading companies foster neurodiversity to their advantage\, how increasing understanding and acceptance of neuro differences is allowing more people to enter the workplace\, and what concrete steps each of us can take to better understand and support neurodiverse colleagues.

SUMMARY:How To Successfully Interview\, Hire And Onboard Employees Remotely
DESCRIPTION:Here are some shocking statistics. One-third of new employees quit after about six months. In the 2021 Bureau of Labor Statistics report\, the overall turnover rate is 57.3%. The most common reason for leaving an employer? Poor management practices. The second-most cited reason? Lack of career development opportunities\, and third was a bad culture fit. \nIn fact\, one survey found that 94% would stay at their current employer if they invested in their long-term learning and coaching! \nThe secret to a company’s success lies in the people you hire\, and no company can afford to make a bad hire\, let alone turn a good hire into a bad one who then leaves due to the lack of the right training and support from management. \nBut how do you find the most qualified candidate to make the right hiring decision\, develop the most effective onboarding process and ensure managers have the skills for ongoing coaching\, training\, and development when working with a remote team? \nJoin me for this interactive event\, where we will discuss the best practices to: \n• Make the right hire\, every time.\n• Identify red flags during the hiring process and the first 30 days on the job.\n• Successfully onboard and transition your new hire into the organization.\n• Reduce turnover and Retain good talent.\n• Promote internally.
