SUMMARY:How to Neurodiversify in the Workplace - Workshop for Employers
DESCRIPTION:Many people with neurological conditions such as autism spectrum disorder and dyslexia have extraordinary skills\, including in pattern recognition\, memory\, and mathematics. Yet they often struggle to fit the profiles sought by employers. \n  \nSometimes neurodiverse people exhibit challenging eccentricities. In many cases the accommodations and challenges are manageable and the potential returns are great. But to realize the benefits\, most companies would have to adjust their recruitment\, selection\, and career development policies to reflect a broader definition of talent. \nCompanies that hire neurodiverse talent\, enjoy not only reputational enhancement\, but also productivity gains\, quality improvement\, boosts in innovative capabilities\, and broad increases in employee engagement. \nResearch suggests that organization’s neurodiverse testing teams are 30% more productive than the other. \nInnovation calls on firms to include people and ideas “from the edges.”\, according to SAP. \nMany neurodiverse people face barriers at the hiring stage – they do not often make eye contact\, may be overly honest about their weaknesses\, some have confidence problems. \nAnother problem is that companies need to change their standardized approaches and adjust to individual work contexts. Employers often perceive it to be an expensive invest\, however\, accommodations\, like installing different lighting or providing noise-cancelling headphone (although neurodiverse professionals usually have them already) are very inexpensive. \n  \nWith this in mind\, Breaking Barrier Program invites to an interactive and content-packed workshop that will provide education and actionable tips to employers who are open to hiring and developing neurodiverse talent and enjoy the benefits of this initiative. \n  \nOrbital Learning Inc presents a workshop How to Neurodiversify in the Workplace that will cover the following topics: \n  \nIntroduction to Neurodiversity in the Workplace \n• Focus on all levels of the hiring process (selection\, pre-onboarding\, onboarding\, and retention). \n• Practical examples\, pointing out which areas of your hiring process may be presenting unintended barriers\, how to get started\, what to do. \nEvolving Best Practices for Neurodiverse Hiring \n• Organizational preparedness\, job ads/descriptions\, where to post to attract\, modified pre-screening\, inclusive interviews and technical assessments\, decision criteria\, job offer and benefits of inclusive hiring. \nInclusive Communications \n• Best practices on how to communicate inclusively – across all levels of an organization.

SUMMARY:Live Webinar 2/23: How to Foster Neurodivergent Advocacy and Acceptance
DESCRIPTION:Do you question whether to disclose to your employer that you have ADHD\, autism\, a learning disorder\, a chronic condition\, or another so-called “invisible disability?” Do you worry that disclosing an impairment might affect your job security or make you feel disconnected from your colleagues? When you’re interviewing for a job\, do you know how best to gauge whether an organization will fit your needs? \nMany employees expend considerable emotional energy hiding their disabilities from colleagues and bosses in every interaction at work\, in every meeting\, and when toiling away side-by-side. It’s exhausting and stressful. But the stigma around disabilities — the fear of discrimination and rejection\, and the risk related to job security — prevents many employees from disclosing their condition and asking for supports and accommodations to succeed at work. \nYet studies show that when employers intentionally create an atmosphere of acceptance and show a commitment to build inclusion — offering disability awareness training and creating employee resource groups as a safe place for people with disabilities\, chronic conditions\, or difficult life situations to meet and support one another — employees no longer feel threatened to reveal a disability. Instead\, they take advantage of employer-provided supports\, which\, in turn\, improves their wellbeing\, increases their level of trust in others\, and boosts their productivity. \nIn this webinar\, Jessica Hicksted\, Ph.D. candidate\, ADHD researcher\, and employee who has autism spectrum disorder and ADHD\, explores how to approach disclosure in the workplace and provides research-driven strategies that cultivate acceptance from colleagues and supervisors. \n“‘Invisible’ Disabilities at Work: How to Foster Neurodivergent Advocacy and Acceptance” [Video Replay & Podcast #443]

SUMMARY:Cover Letter Best Practices
DESCRIPTION:Are cover letters really still needed? Yes! And this webinar will show you how to write effective cover letters without spending too much time on them. \nHere are some stats that prove cover letters are still necessary: A ResumeLab survey of 200 hiring managers found that 83% of the time\, a great cover letter was enough to sway them to extend a job interview to a candidate with a less-than-perfect resume. \nA majority of hiring managers said cover letters were crucial to their hiring decisions\, and 77% give preference to candidates who submit one\, even if they’re deemed optional on the application form. A similar percentage share always expects the document\, even if they’re not required in order to apply. \nA study by ResumeGo found that applications with cover letters carefully tailored to individual job descriptions yielded over 50% more interviews than job applications submitted without a letter. \nIn this webinar\, a FlexJobs career coach discussed how to write great cover letters for your remote job applications.
