SUMMARY:Retaining Valued Employees with Disabilities: The Importance of Performance Coaching and Management
DESCRIPTION:Performance coaching and management is an important component of retaining all workers including those with disabilities. Effective performance management helps employees understand the duties of their job\, as well as advance in their careers. In celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)\, EARN invites employers and managers to help make disability part of the equity equation by learning how to ensure that workers with disabilities can succeed on the job. \nAll employees\, including those with disabilities\, benefit from regular feedback on their performance. Effective performance management provides the employee with opportunities to grow existing skills and develop new ones. However\, some managers may shy away from having productive performance conversations with employees with disabilities or health conditions because they feel uncomfortable or fear they could violate disability-related laws or regulations if they do so. \nIn this webinar\, a panel of HR experts will share effective strategies people managers can use to support and empower employees with disabilities and confidently engage in coaching and performance dialogues. Topics to be discussed include: \n\nThe importance of regular coaching and feedback for employees with disabilities;\nHow to address performance concerns when you know or suspect that an employee has a disability;\nHow to ensure that people with disabilities are not unfairly disadvantaged in the process of performance appraisal and development;\nAnd how coaching and effective performance management can lead to better employee engagement and retention outcomes.

SUMMARY:Designing for Every User- Neurodiversity in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\nSpeaker: Dr Sally Augustin \nHow we process the sensory information we collect from the world around us has a dramatic effect on how we think and behave\, whether we are successful in our professional endeavors or not. Some humans process the inputs available to them in ways that differ from the way that many others do and that can meaningfully affect their performance and wellbeing at work. \nThe goal of this session is not to discuss designing for any sort of disability but to review designing to support individuals who process information in ways that vary from the majority. \nPotential at-work sensory processing differences with reasonable design-related solutions will be discussed. These include atypical sensory channel operation (for instance deafness or being hard-of-hearing)\, deferentially sensitive processing (as experienced by highly sensitive people\, for example)\, being on the autism spectrum\, having ADHD\, being dyslexic\, and personality- and professional-training based differences in responses to design.

SUMMARY:INAS Neurodiversity Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:Connecting the Neurodiverse Community with those willing to listen\, learn\, and support \n\n\n\n\nINAS 2022 Neurodiversity Conference will be held for the first time in the Southern Tier of New York on September 24\, 2022. We invite everyone to join in this unique event designed for Neurodiverse individuals and families\, as well as all the people. organizations\, services\, and businesses with which they interact. \nOur Goals: \nTo gather and strengthen communities around advocacy\, support\, and accommodation for neurodivergent individuals and families by providing speakers\, presenters\, venders\, and events that share and network relevant resources and providers\, as well as provide opportunities for neurodivergent individuals to speak for themselves and share their skills/wares with a broader audience. \nTo accommodate sensory challenges and varied abilities and disabilities in thoughtful and inclusive ways. \nTo be a launching pad for advocacy and accommodation throughout the Southern Tier. \nWhat is the INAS understanding of Neurodiversity? \nWe all process the world around us differently. Some people experience\, interact with\, and interpret the world in particularly unique ways that sometimes carry diagnoses including Autism\, ADHD\, Dyslexia\, sensory processing challenges\, learning disabilities\, and more. \nThese terms explain identity and should not be looked upon as weaknesses or problems to be fixed\, but rather as normal variations of the human brain. We desire to champion strengths\, understand and accommodate challenges\, and find ways to embrace and learn from both. \nThe Meaning of the Name \nINAS is both an acronym and a name that describes what we desire this conference to be. \nINAS stands for Information\, Networking\, Advocacy and Support. \n/’ɪ- naz/ proper name 1 sociable\, friendly\, cordial\, genial. 2 peaceful\, tranquil\, free of fear. 3 capable. 4. beautiful. \nPlease email Dawn-Marie (eqsolutionsyou2.0@gmail.com) for more information about volunteering\, presenting\, speaking\, and vending opportunities.

She additionally worked at the Northeast Arc as Program Director for the Spotlight Program\, a drama-based social pragmatics program\, serving youth with a wide range of diagnoses and collaborating with several school districts to design in-house social skills and transition programs. Ms. Challen is co-author of the chapter “Technologies to Support Interventions for Social- Emotional Intelligence\, Self-Awareness\, Personality Style\, and Self-Regulation” for the book Technology Tools for Students with Autism. She is also a proud mother of two energetic boys\, ages six and three.
