SUMMARY:Inclusive Workplaces – Disability Inclusion and Accessibility
DESCRIPTION:A critical dialogue on disability\, inclusion and accessibility. \nFor over 30 years the United Nations (UN) has advocated for a more equitable and inclusive society for people with disabilities (PwD). While we’ve seen some improvements in institutional policies and practices and changes in individual attitudes and behaviour\, equity for PwD in the workplace remains elusive. \nIn this webinar\, speakers will share stories about living with different types of disabilities\, supporting loved ones who live with disabilities and engage in critical dialogue about challenging preconceived assumptions about disability while navigating the workplace. \nJoin our Panelists:\nWith Guest Speaker: \n\nRayhan Azmat\, Vice President\, Financial Planning & Analysis at Cineplex Entertainment\n\nRayhan’s inspiring story is one of resilience in the face of adversity and constant change. He was diagnosed with an ultra-rare muscle condition in his early twenties that has gradually stripped him of his physical abilities\, but he has continued to thrive in his personal and professional life. Rayhan is currently Vice President and Head of FP&A at Cineplex Entertainment\, has travelled the world with his wife and children\, pursued his passion for film\, and advocates for disability rights and inclusion through multiple board positions.(https://www.rayhanazmat.com/#about) \n\nAnita Houle\, Project Manager\, 50-30 Challenge\, Northern Lights College\n\nAnita Houle (Friesen-Houle)\, a Human Resources Professional\, currently leading a team supporting organizations within Western Canada and the Territories in the advancement of equity\, diversity\, inclusion and economic prosperity. Drawing from extensive experience as a survivor of a childhood drowning accident\, Anita Houle (Friesen-Houle) brings a life-long personal perspective to the webinar panel. \n\nSabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui\, Professor and Senior Advisor – CICan EDI Knowledge Mobilization Centre at Sheridan College\n\nProfessor\, researcher\, and a trailblazer in the EDI sector\, Sabreena’s contributions as a public intellectual continue to make an impact on policies relating to the equity of immigrants and racialized equity-deserving groups in Canada. Sabreena is leading the “Community of Practice” and is developing the highly anticipated Executive Leadership and Non-profit Board Leadership Certificate Programs/Learning Series. She provides expert EDI analysis\, training\, strategies and leadership coaching to the project. Fluent in seven languages and an award-winning public speaker\, Sabreena is a passionate social justice advocate who you may have seen on TV! \nSheridan College and Northern Lights College recognize International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Through the 50-30 Challenge our institutions support organizations to increase the representation and inclusion of people with disabilities in leadership and Board director positions in Canadian organizations. \nSheridan College is proud to host CICan’s National EDI Knowledge Mobilization Centre and are partners of the 50 – 30 Challenge. \nNote on accessibility \nWe are committed to accessibility for all people.
