SUMMARY:Recognizing and Disrupting Workplace Discrimination
DESCRIPTION:-ALERT- \nDHR will continue to offer virtual/online training classes as a precaution against COVID-19. The health and safety of the public and our employees have made this decision necessary. To take advantage of our online platform\, participants will need a computer and access to an internet connection. Moving forward\, our team will contact you via email to ensure all participants receive an individualized link to join IDHR’s WebEx platform training session. \nIf you have questions or require any additional information\, please feel free to contact our Training Unit at IDHR.Training@illinois.gov. \nWe appreciate your assistance and support. \n– RECOMMENDED FOR MANAGERS & EMPLOYEES – \nThe purpose of this course is to educate employees on the definition of discrimination and harassment under the law. The course also provides an overview of the rights and responsibilities of employees and management\, by providing examples of behavior that constitutes harassment as well as providing prevention guidelines. Harassment rooted in bias represents one of the most destructive workplace issues faced by public and private employers today. Discrimination\, the act of prejudicial treatment based on race\, color\, sexual orientation\, national origin\, religion\, gender\, disability\, age among others\, can create workplace liability. Harassment can manifest in jokes\, negative stereotyping\, hostile acts or simple thoughtless comments. The ultimate outcome is the same: legal liability\, profound emotional stress\, lower employee morale and reduced productivity. \nREASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS: Trainings with the Illinois Department of Human Rights Institute for Training and Development are accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act\, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Illinois Human Rights Act. \nA person with a disability needing an accommodation to participate in IDHR trainings should contact the Institute for Training and Development at 312-814-2477 or (TTY) 866-740-3953 or at IDHR.Training@illinois.gov \nThe Institute for Training and Development requires seven (7) business days to obtain any reasonable accommodation. If for some reason you cannot attend your scheduled training\, you must request the cancellation of the reasonable accommodation at least 72 hours prior to the date of training. All requests must be in writing and should include reason for cancellation. Failure to comply may result in suspension of future training privileges. \nTRAINING MATERIALS: A training webinar link will be sent via email (1-2) business days prior to the date of training. Once you receive the link please accept with a response and we’ll send you the training material. Please add idhr.training@illinois.gov to your address book to avoid emails going to your spam folder. \nREGISTRATION AND CANCELLATION: Please register online as soon as possible prior to the training session\, as classes without a minimum number of registrants may be cancelled. If for some reason you cannot attend\, please request cancellation at least seven (7) business days prior to the date of training. \nCOURSE REGISTRATION DISCLAIMER: Thank you for your registration! The Training Institute is committed to providing our customers with the best learning experience. A times\, a course may need to be rescheduled or canceled based on registrant interest. When this occurs\, you will receive a notice of cancellation within 48 hrs. of the scheduled course date. \nIf you would like information about onsite training for your organization\, or if you have suggestions for future public course offerings\, please email us at IDHR.Training@illinois.gov.

SUMMARY:The Job Forum - Weekly Wednesday Meeting: Free Job Search & Career Advice
DESCRIPTION:Every Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00pm\, a rotating panel of experts from a variety of Bay Area companies convene in a virtual meeting to help YOU with your job search. We are a nonprofit organization sponsored by The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce\, and we are here to help! \nJob seeking can be hard and stressful. We know sometimes you just have questions and want real advice. Our staff of professional volunteers will spend the time to understand you and help you take the next steps in your job search. \nEach Wednesday\, we have a rotating panel of three experts in their respective fields. Though the specific industry of the panelist may not be your own\, there is plenty of valuable information that can be taken from each meeting. Anyone who joins our virtual meeting will get a chance to speak to these advisors and get insight on questions they might have. You now have the option of submitting your resumes and LinkedIn profiles for instant feedback. \n• Each attendee gets a turn. While you are waiting for your turn\, you get to hear the advice and practical suggestions given to other attendees and apply them to your own situation. As an open forum to all participants\, you can also make suggestions to other participants. \n• When it is your turn\, you share a brief summary of your current situation\, goals\, and what you need help with. You can tell us whatever special circumstances or frustrating responses you are encountering as you look for your next job. \n• The panel asks questions and shares ideas\, feedback\, and resources that can help you focus your job search efforts and prioritize your next steps. \nThis week – NEW PRIZE DRAWING! \nThis week\, The Job Forum will be holding a drawing with two fantastic prizes! A winner will be drawn from the people who sign up and ATTEND the meeting. You MUST be present to win. The prizes are a free 30-min 1-On-1 Advising session with one of our career advisors or a copy of “Give Yourself A Nudge: How Smart People Make Smarter Personal Business Decisions\,” by Ralph L. Keeney. \nThe winner will be announced at the end of the meeting\, so make sure you sign up\, attend\, and stay until the end! \n** If you are the winner\, YOU MUST give us your email in the chat so we can contact you. A couple people have won and were not registered through Eventbrite\, or possibly go by another name\, so YOU MUST tell us how to contact you. \nHow to sign up: \nREGISTER on EventBrite: https://thejobforumwednesdays.eventbrite.com \n\nRegister here via Eventbrite.\n24 hours in advance\, as well as 2 hours in advance of event\, you will receive an email containing a link and password\, allowing you to join The Job Forum via Zoom.\nWe have limited attendance and many job hunters who want customized input for their job search\, so please sign up only if you are truly going to attend and participate for the whole 2 hours.\nPlease be no more than 15 minutes late. We do close the meeting and cannot allow late-comers to join.\nSince we’re trying to stay connected despite social isolation\, we will have our cameras on. Please join us on camera if possible.\n\nAgain\, the sharing of resumes and profiles on select days is optional and is not required if you do not feeling comfortable doing so. The files or links will be submitted to and shared by the panelists only. Any file or link will be shared with the group\, so if you do not decide to submit your own\, you can still gain valuable information from someone else’s submission.
